FlyArystan operated its first flight from Astana to Yining, China, on 26 October 2026. Flight FS7989, an Airbus A320, departed Astana International Airport at 07:55. The flight time was about 2 hours 25 minutes. In Yining the aircraft was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute.
Schedule
Flights are announced three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Earlier, in an announcement of 13 August, a start on 28 October was named with two flights a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, departing Astana at 07:55 and arriving in Yining at 13:20 local time, with the return leaving Yining at 15:20 and arriving in Astana at 14:50. The start moved two days earlier and the frequency rose to three. The updated return schedule is not given in the available reports.
Place in the network
Yining is FlyArystan's second Xinjiang destination served from a Kazakh city after Almaty. The airline has flown to Yining from Almaty since May 2025 and raised frequency to four flights a week in 2026. According to reports, FlyArystan operates four direct routes in total between Kazakhstan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region: Almaty, Astana and Aktau are linked with Urumqi and Yining.
FlyArystan President Johan Eidhagen called the airline the largest foreign carrier in Xinjiang. The report gives no figures on the number of flights, market share or comparison with other airlines, so this is a company statement, not a confirmed indicator.
What has not been announced
The number of passengers on the first flight, loads, fares, conditions at Yining airport and the updated return schedule have not been named. No data has been published on how the new route affects demand on Astana–China.
Our assessment: the opening of Astana–Yining shows FlyArystan building a second Xinjiang point not only from Almaty but also from the capital, with Urumqi and Yining becoming part of the network from Astana alongside Air Astana's China flights. For the market this is a signal that regional Chinese cities are becoming a destination in their own right for Kazakh low-cost carriers. But the season will show whether demand is enough for three flights a week. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by FlyArystan.
What businesses can do. Tour operators and agencies working with China should add Yining to offers from Astana. Receiving companies and DMCs in Xinjiang should prepare programmes for Monday, Wednesday and Saturday flights. Airports and ground handlers should note that the route has moved from announcement to regular operation.
