On 19 October 2026 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan and the United States signed a package of 54 agreements covering trade, investment and technology. According to Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, their implementation is expected to involve about 12 billion dollars. The agreements span industry, transport and energy infrastructure, critical minerals, finance, digital technology, agriculture, healthcare and education.
In the transport part of the package, GE Aerospace plans to supply engines for new Uzbekistan Airways aircraft.
On the same day, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov met GE Aerospace Vice President for Global Commercial Sales Mahendra R. Nair. The sides discussed cooperation on training aviation specialists and upgrading their qualifications, citing growing demand for skilled workers in the industry. They agreed to jointly develop educational programmes for training and upskilling aviation professionals.
Our assessment: for maintenance companies and spare parts suppliers this is a signal about Uzbekistan Airways' future engine fleet, and for training centres, about the emergence of joint workforce programmes. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, Uzbekistan Airways or GE Aerospace.
