Kazakhstan and AFCAC discuss possible air links with Africa

Nurlan Sauranbayev and Adefunke Adeyemi, Secretary General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), discussed cooperation, the possibility of opening air services, experience sharing and professional training. The meeting took place on 22 October 2026.

What was discussed

The sides touched on three areas: possible air services, experience sharing and staff training. These were talks, not an agreement.

About the partner

AFCAC is the African Union's specialised agency for civil aviation. Adefunke Adeyemi has led the commission's secretariat since 2022.

What has not been announced

No flight has been announced. Countries and cities, carriers, traffic rights, frequencies, timelines and documents have not been named.

Our assessment: the meeting is an early diplomatic signal. It should not be used to calculate capacity or plan flights: until specific destinations and carriers appear, it is only a dialogue between regulators. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport or AFCAC.

What businesses can do. Route analysts and airlines can note Kazakhstan's interest in the African direction and watch for bilateral air services agreements. Training centres can take into account the demand for staff training.
