Air Astana has announced the launch of a new seasonal direct route between Almaty and the Malaysian resort island of Langkawi. Flights will begin on December 25, 2026 and run through March 27, 2027, operating three times a week — on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays — using an Airbus A321LR.
Schedule: flight KC8167 departs Almaty at 21:35 and arrives in Langkawi at 08:10 the next day (flight time of 7 hours 35 minutes); the return flight KC8168 departs Langkawi at 09:40 and arrives in Almaty at 14:40 (8 hours flight time).
Between February 7 and March 6, 2027, frequency will be temporarily reduced to twice weekly.
Kazakhstani citizens can enter Malaysia visa-free for up to 30 days, simplifying travel on the new route.
The Langkawi launch is part of a broader expansion of Air Astana's Southeast Asia network: the airline is also increasing frequency on the Almaty–Bangkok route to five weekly flights from September 30, 2026, rising to daily service in November, and boosting frequency on the Almaty–Tbilisi route starting November 2, 2026.
