Kyrgyzstan's First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Daniyar Amangeldiev, met Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Saeed, and discussed the need to open direct air service between the two countries. The meeting took place on 24 October 2026.
What is known
The sides discussed the need for direct flights. No signing of an air services agreement, choice of carrier or approval of a route has been reported. Airports, cities, frequencies and dates have not been named.
Background
The topic is not new. In February 2024, Daniyar Bostonov, director of Kyrgyzstan's State Civil Aviation Agency, said he expected Qatar Airways to launch flights from Doha in June 2024. In April 2025, Kyrgyzstan's Ambassador to Qatar, Marat Nuraliev, and Qatar's Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, discussed in Doha the possibility of opening direct flights in the near future. We found no confirmation in the materials we checked that regular service has launched.
What has not been announced
Traffic rights, permits, commercial model, aircraft type and carrier have not been named in reports. The words "discussed the need" do not mean a decision to launch.
Our assessment: a high-level meeting brings the question of flights back onto the agenda, but the statements of 2024 and 2025 did not lead to an announced route. A real signal would be a named carrier and dates. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers or the Qatari authorities.
What businesses can do. Tour operators and agents can wait for an official announcement before adding the direction to sales. Cargo operators can watch for possible cargo programmes via Doha. Regional airlines can note that Qatar's arrival on Kyrgyzstan's market would change competition on Gulf routes.
