Manas and Germany's TRIWO Hahn become sister airports

Kyrgyzstan's Manas International Airport and Germany's TRIWO Hahn airport signed a cooperation agreement and became sister airports. Airports of Kyrgyzstan announced it on 21 October 2026.

What the agreement covers

The sides cited development of passenger and cargo services, exchange of experience, introduction of modern technology and attracting new airlines. Airports of Kyrgyzstan expects the partnership to broaden international links, help attract carriers and strengthen the country's transit and logistics potential.

The visit

A delegation of Airports of Kyrgyzstan was led by Commercial Director Aman Mamaev. The trip was organised with the support of Kyrgyzstan's embassy in Germany. TRIWO Hahn management presented its infrastructure, technical capabilities and cargo complex. The sides discussed prospects for cooperation in aviation and logistics.

Context

The agreement comes four months after the European Commission confirmed on 9 June 2026 that airlines certified in Kyrgyzstan had been removed from the EU air safety list of banned carriers. Kyrgyzstan then passed an ICAO mission, which, according to the agency, had no critical remarks.

Our assessment: sister-airport status by itself does not mean a new air route. The terms, timeline, investment and routes have not been published, so a concrete commercial effect will appear only when flights or cargo programmes are announced. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by Airports of Kyrgyzstan or TRIWO Hahn.

What businesses can do. Cargo operators and forwarders on the Central Asia — Europe corridor can watch for announcements of cargo programmes and rates. Airlines can assess interest in Bishkek — Germany services. Airport commercial teams in the region can consider this partnership format as a tool for attracting carriers.
