Pakistan and Turkmenistan plan to resume cargo and commercial air service

Pakistan and Turkmenistan plan to resume cargo and commercial air service between the two countries in the near future. Pakistan's Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Faryal Legari, said so in an article published to mark the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence on 26 September 2026.

What the ambassador said

According to Legari, direct flights would support regional connectivity alongside road and rail routes. Air links, he noted, would broaden contacts and create opportunities for cooperation in trade, healthcare, education and sport.

In the article, the ambassador recalled that Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognise Turkmenistan's independence and that diplomatic relations were established in the early years of independence. As a basis for further cooperation he cited Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality and Pakistan's interest in regional security and stability.

What has not been announced

Cities and airports, airlines, frequencies, aircraft type and the resumption date have not been named. No signed agreements or regulatory decisions have been reported. The phrase "in the near future" does not mean a date.

Our assessment: the ambassador's statement shows political intent, not an announced route. The practical effect will appear once a carrier, airports and a schedule are named. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by Pakistan's embassy or Turkmenistan's authorities.

What businesses can do. Tour operators and agents can hold off adding the direction to sales until a schedule is announced. Cargo operators and forwarders can watch for cargo programmes. Regional airlines can assess interest in the Pakistani market, bearing in mind that Uzbekistan Airways already operates Tashkent — Islamabad.
