Qatar Airways Cargo has strengthened its Almaty service by deploying a widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the route. According to the carrier, this adds 73 tonnes of belly-hold cargo capacity each way, every week.
Combined with three existing weekly dedicated freighter services, total cargo capacity on the Doha–Almaty–Doha route will exceed 370 tonnes per week.
This is not the first step in Qatar Airways Cargo's capacity build-up to Kazakhstan this year. The carrier had previously reported adding 200 tonnes of weekly inbound freighter capacity to Almaty through additional dedicated Boeing 777 freighter flights, with Osaka, Tbilisi and Yerevan added to its freighter network at the same time.
The expansion fits Qatar Airways Cargo's broader strategy: the carrier has said it plans to grow overall network capacity by 12% through new freighter destinations and increased passenger flight frequencies carrying belly-hold cargo, spanning Asia, the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East through its Doha hub at Hamad International Airport.
