Somon Air has chosen France-based Moment to launch inflight entertainment on eight new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Moment announced this in a press release dated 6 October 2026, and Asian Aviation published the story on 8 October. The platform is planned to go live in the fourth quarter of 2026.
According to Moment, Somon Air's entire fleet consists of Boeing 737s, and none of the aircraft has had inflight entertainment until now. The fleet renewal programme was announced with Boeing in November 2025, and the first 737 MAX 8 was delivered in August 2026.
The solution is built on the Flymingo Box, a portable server with its own battery. According to Moment, it requires no aircraft modification or STC, runs for up to 14 hours on one charge and serves up to 100 devices. Passengers watch content over Wi-Fi on their own devices.
The airline has chosen three modules of the Mood platform: entertainment (video, games, podcasts), travel information with a moving map, and an Ads module with its own ad server. Moment will supply an international content catalogue in Tajik, Russian and English.
According to Moment, Somon Air becomes its second customer in Central Asia after SCAT Airlines, and its third in the Caucasus and Central Asia after AZAL, where the platform has operated since 2019. Moment cites OAG data showing air capacity in Central Asia growing by almost 500% over 20 years; we have not checked the OAG original.
The contract value and term, the number of servers per aircraft, and whether the current Boeing 737-800 and 737-900ER aircraft will be equipped have not been disclosed. It is unknown whether access will be paid and how advertising revenue will be shared. The aircraft count also needs clarification: the Moment deal names eight 737 MAX 8, while Somon Air's package with Boeing was reported as "up to 10 737 MAX". This may be the difference between aircraft to be equipped and aircraft ordered, but this has not been established.
Our assessment: a solution that needs no cabin modification, as Moment describes it, should not burden MRO or delay the entry of the 737 MAX 8 into service. The advertising module may give Somon Air an additional revenue stream, which is of interest to advertisers and tour operators on its routes. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by Somon Air or Moment.
