Somon Air received its second Boeing 737 MAX 8 on 12 September 2026, completing a two-aircraft lease agreement with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE). The first jet was delivered on 27 July 2026 and named after Tajik scholar Abu Ali ibn Sino.
According to Tajikistan's Civil Aviation Agency, cited by Asia-Plus on 28 July, the new Boeing MAX aircraft are intended not only for Somon Air's existing routes but also for planned international flights from Dushanbe to Seoul, Beijing, Minsk, and London.
The fleet expansion is part of Tajikistan's "open skies" policy. Civil Aviation Agency director Habibullo Nazarzoda has said: "As the fleet grows, the geography of flights will also expand. We have received permits from many countries to operate flights, but we currently lack sufficient capacity because of the shortage of aircraft."
In 2025, Somon Air placed its largest-ever Boeing order — for up to 14 aircraft, including widebody Boeing 787-9s and up to 10 narrowbody Boeing 737-8s.
