Vietnam's Sun PhuQuoc Airways has started operating direct flights between Almaty and Phu Quoc island. The first flight arrived in Almaty on 25 October 2026. This was reported on 28 October.
Schedule
Until 26 December 2026 flights operate three times a week: from Almaty to Phu Quoc on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and from Phu Quoc to Almaty on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
From 26 December 2026 to 27 March 2027, the end of the winter season, frequency rises to five flights a week: from Almaty on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and from Phu Quoc on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Aircraft and cabin
The flights are operated by an Airbus A321 with 186 economy seats and 15 Sleeping Economy seats. According to schedule publications, the aircraft type is listed as A321LR. The carrier's general agent in Kazakhstan is Fun&Sun Kazakhstan. Flight time, according to the agent, is about seven and a half hours.
What about Astana
The carrier has also announced Phu Quoc–Astana flights: four times a week on wide-body Airbus A330-200s. The start date is given differently in publications: 1 November and 27 December, and we found no confirmation from the carrier. We do not give a date until it is confirmed.
What has not been announced
Fares by date, departure and arrival times, flight numbers, seat availability, the start date of Phu Quoc–Astana and the schedule after 27 March 2027. Sources differ on the frequency and start date in Almaty and on the cabin configuration and seat count: we use the report of 28 October, which confirms the actual launch.
Our assessment: a direct flight to Phu Quoc gives the Kazakh market a new resort destination for the winter season, and the rise to five flights a week from late December shows the carrier expects peak demand. But without data on loads and fares, it is too early to judge how durable the route is. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by Sun PhuQuoc Airways.
What businesses can do. Tour operators and agencies can recalculate winter Vietnam programmes in view of weekdays and the frequency increase from 26 December. Almaty airport and ground services can account for the new flight in their schedule. Hotel operators in Phu Quoc can prepare offers for the Kazakh market. Airlines flying to Vietnam can follow prices and loads.
