Uzbekistan's airports receive Airport Carbon Accreditation certificates: Tashkent at Level 2

ACI EUROPE Director General Olivier Jankovec presented the Airport Carbon Accreditation certificate to Javlonbek Umarkhodjaev, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports, at a ceremony during the joint ACI EUROPE and ICAO EUR/NAT Environmental Protection Seminar in Tashkent. The seminar opened on 7 October and runs through 9 October.

Nine airports operated by Uzbekistan Airports are in the programme. Samarkand, Urgench, Namangan, Fergana, Nukus, Termez, Karshi and Navoi airports have achieved Level 1, while Tashkent International Airport joined directly at Level 2. According to Uzbekistan Airports, Level 1 means an airport has mapped and independently verified its operational emissions, while Level 2 involves measures to reduce them. The accreditation itself was announced on 8 July 2026; in the July statement Tashkent was described as the first and so far only airport in Central Asia at Level 2.

ACI EUROPE notes the start of a coordinated approach to carbon management across Uzbekistan's airport network. According to the statement, the airports are already working towards higher levels by strengthening emissions monitoring, improving energy efficiency, engaging stakeholders and implementing long-term decarbonisation measures.

Our assessment: for banks and development institutions that weigh ESG in infrastructure financing, verified emissions accounting is a clear reference point. This is flycentralasia's conclusion, not a statement by ACI EUROPE or Uzbekistan Airports.

For airports in the region and suppliers of energy-efficiency solutions: Uzbekistan Airports has already signalled a path to higher accreditation levels.

Emission-reduction targets, timelines for moving to higher levels and investment volumes were not named. Levels 1 and 2 are early steps in the programme, not carbon neutrality.
